Trust Online: Why WeAreReal Still Deliberately Does Not Claim Its Trustpilot Profile

Trustpilot is one of the best-known review platforms in the world. But in an age of artificial intelligence, bots, and fake identities, a fundamental question arises: are traditional online reviews still enough to create trust? That is precisely why WeAreReal has deliberately chosen not to claim its Trustpilot profile to this day.

Trust is changing

Some time ago, we published a blog article explaining why WeAreReal deliberately does not claim its company profile on Trustpilot.

Since then, something has changed.

Anyone visiting our profile today will find a notice saying that no new reviews can currently be submitted there.

We cannot and do not wish to judge why that is.

However, we find another question much more interesting.

Why, in 2026, do we still rely on systems in which trust is often based on anonymous reviews?

This question concerns more than WeAreReal.

It concerns the entire internet.

The internet has changed

Ten or fifteen years ago, online reviews were a genuine revolution.

They gave people guidance.

They made companies more transparent.

They helped consumers make better decisions.

That basic principle was right.

But today’s digital world is no longer the same.

Artificial intelligence writes texts in a matter of seconds.

Bots can hold discussions.

Fake profiles appear more authentic than ever.

Automated systems create content at a speed that would have been almost unimaginable only a few years ago.

This is also changing one of the internet’s most important currencies.

Trust.

The real question is not: Is Trustpilot good or bad?

Our goal has never been to criticize individual review platforms.

Quite the opposite.

Platforms such as Trustpilot have made an important contribution to transparency on the internet for many years.

But today, the real challenge lies elsewhere.

It is not the platform that determines trust.

It is the identity of the person publishing a review.

In our view, this is where the internet’s next stage of development begins.

Reviews influence millions of decisions

Before people book a hotel, choose a doctor, visit a restaurant, or buy software, they read reviews.

A few stars often determine whether someone places their trust in a business or keeps looking.

Reviews influence purchasing decisions.

They influence companies.

Jobs.

And sometimes even entire livelihoods.

The greater this influence becomes, the more important one simple question is:

Who is behind a review?

In the age of AI, trust is becoming scarcer than information

The internet produces more content today than ever before.

Texts.

Images.

Videos.

Voices.

Comments.

Reviews.

Information is becoming cheaper.

Faster.

Easier.

This creates a new problem.

Information is not becoming scarce.

Trust is.

That is precisely why we believe digital platforms will change fundamentally in the years ahead.

Why WeAreReal still does not claim its Trustpilot profile

Our decision is not a reaction to individual reviews.

It is an expression of our conviction.

WeAreReal was founded because we believe digital identity will play a decisive role in the future.

Our goal was clear from the start.

  • No bots.
  • No fake profiles.
  • No anonymous identities.
  • Only verified people.

For us, this conviction does not end within our own platform.

It concerns the entire internet.

That is why we still deliberately do not claim our Trustpilot profile.

Not because we are afraid of criticism.

But because we are convinced that trust will be built differently in the future.

The future belongs to verified identities

Artificial intelligence will become increasingly powerful in the years ahead.

Texts will become easier to create.

Images.

Videos.

Voices.

Comments.

Reviews.

Everything.

As a result, one ability will become increasingly valuable.

The ability to clearly distinguish between a real person and an artificial identity.

We believe this is exactly where the internet’s next major development begins.

Not more content.

More trust.

Reviews will change

We do not believe reviews will disappear.

Quite the opposite.

They will become more important than ever.

At the same time, however, we believe their foundation will change.

Not every arbitrary identity will carry the same credibility.

Verified people will become increasingly important.

Anyone who publishes a public review assumes responsibility.

That responsibility should be visible.

Because trust emerges where people stand behind what they say.

WeAreReal is not building a review platform

We are often asked whether WeAreReal intends to develop its own alternative to Trustpilot.

Our answer is:

Not necessarily.

Our goal is bigger.

We are not building a traditional review platform.

We are building infrastructure for trust.

Reviews are just one possible application.

Business networks.

Communities.

Events.

Recommendations.

Digital identities.

Everything begins with the same foundation.

A verified person.

The future does not begin with more AI

It begins with more trust.

Artificial intelligence will change our world.

There is hardly any doubt about that.

The real challenge, however, is not to create more content.

It is to make real people visible again.

Perhaps in a few years we will no longer ask:

“How many stars does this company have?”

But instead:

“Who wrote this review?”

In our view, that is where the future of the internet begins.

Conclusion

This article is not directed against Trustpilot.

Nor is it directed against other review platforms.

It is addressed to everyone asking the same question we are:

How do we create trust in a digital world where artificial intelligence produces more and more content?

We believe the answer does not lie in even more algorithms.

Not in even more reviews.

Not in even more platforms.

But in something that is becoming increasingly valuable:

Real people.

Because in the end, one thing is truer than ever:

The more artificial our world becomes, the more valuable real people become.
